We thought that you may find it useful to have an overview of the homework expectations across the school for every year group
Homework is not a statutory requirement of schools but it is defined by DFE as:
“…..any work or activities which pupils are asked to do outside lesson time, either on their own or with parents or carers.”
|READING||Nursery & Reception – spend some time each night sharing books and talking about books
Year 1 to Year 4 – regular daily reading for 10 – 15 minutes. Listen to your child read, discuss the book.
Year 5 to Year 6 – regular and more sustained reading. They can read on their own.
|WRITING||Nursery & reception – spend some time practicing their name and forming the letters correctly. They may also bring some key words and sounds home to practice.
Year 1 to Year 6 – spelling are sent home every Friday to practice and return by the following Thursday. These may be key words, topic words or spelling rules.
In addition to spellings, pupils in Y2 to Y6 may be required to complete any written tasks or research relating to the topic or style of writing that they are studying ( ie instructions)
|MATHS||Nursery & Reception – spend some time counting and exploring numbers around them and how to write numbers to 5, then 10 then 20.
Year 1 and Year 2 – Number formation or number bonds or simple times tables and number patterns will be sent home every 2 weeks.
Year 3 to Year 6 – Maths problem solving or calculations or times tables tasks will be given each week.
|Year 2 and Year 6||There may be additional tasks to complete over the year in readiness for the National tests in May 2020.|
